Volunteers, civic representatives and community organisations came together in Dublin for World Humanitarian Day, sharing different approaches to helping people in need.

The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Rather than concentrating on news eu parlament a single form of aid, the programme reflected the variety of ways local groups respond to social needs.

Among the speakers was South Dublin Mayor Cllr. Francis Timmons, who presented the practical assistance provided through Clondalkin Helping Homeless.

Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, focused on the organisation's work with people with disabilities and its emphasis on independence and participation.

The programme also included a presentation by Silvia Fani on the local and international work of Scientology Volunteer Ministers.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers programme was founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1970s as an initiative for practical assistance to individuals and communities. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”

An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.

The gathering underlined the role that volunteers, civic organisations and religious communities can each play in supporting people facing difficult circumstances.
